May AI Always Be the Crazy Glue and Duct Tape in a Content Creator’s Toolbox
Content developers find themselves in a brave new world. Much like coders, the content that builds bridges with audiences works best when crafted by skilled, experienced professionals—with AI lending a helping hand to speed things up and improve the outcome.
Charlie Iachetta, Director of Content Development and Strategy at Logical, states, “AI is a helpful research assistant and a decent collaborator, but it’s definitely not the final word on anything.” He explains, “Communication is as much an art as it is a skill. And the art? That’s what elevates good work into great work.” Iachetta continues, “Developing a content idea requires that creative spark— intuition and imagination to craft presentations that feel natural yet unexpected. Without that, you’re just left with noise.”
He even finds AI’s missteps illuminating: “When it comes to headlines or copy drafts, AI often shows me what doesn’t work, or half a thought. But that’s helpful— it gets me thinking, evaluating, imagining, and, ultimately, discovering options around what works best.”
The Human Touch is Vital
There’s a growing push to rely entirely on untrained workers paired with AI, assuming that’s enough. But without skilled designers, writers, or art directors, AI-generated content can end up off-balance, visually disharmonious, or aesthetically lacking. These flaws aren’t just subjective—they’re noticeable, and often even disconcerting.
Logical Designer, Jessica Abu-Ali explains, “I like to use AI to help me organize my ideas, add to them and visualize the overall structure of a design more clearly with me.”
Jessica adds, “I also like to generate images from scratch with AI because I can achieve the exact look I’m going for, as opposed to using stock images which can be very limiting. I think those that don’t use AI to their advantage will probably not be able to keep up.”
She concludes with one final, hopeful thought. “I don’t look at AI as something that will replace me. I think about it as something that can help enhance every aspect of my work.”
Logical Designer, Katy Felker agrees. “AI helps me visualize my designs in richer, deeper ways. Why would anybody not want to work with that?”
Feedback Shouldn’t Cross Circuits.
To do the best work and get the best results, incorporating feedback is essential. Good luck giving AI feedback on nuanced design issues, or subtle content tone and manner elements. AI struggles to interpret critique and iteratively refine its output the way a human designer or writer can. Left unchecked, it often misreads context, producing content that feels irrelevant, out of place, or just plain wrong.
Let Humans Lead the Way. AI is Here to Help.
Staying on top of design trends and communication innovations? That’s a human strength, as AI often lags behind industry shifts. Cultural sensitivity? Another crucial area where AI falters. It takes experienced professionals to avoid creating content that could offend or alienate. Let’s face it—it’s hard enough for humans to get that right.
Visual storytelling is no exception. We’ve all seen images so jarring they repel instead of engage. AI, without human guidance, often misses how visuals impact user experience. And then there’s the infamous “uncanny valley,” where AI-generated human likenesses become subtly eerie, unsettling audiences instead of connecting with them.
Looking for inspiration or emotional resonance? Don’t rely on AI alone. Its tendency to cling to training data results in visuals and descriptions that feel repetitive and uninspired—a surefire way to bore your audience. Only human designers and storytellers can bring the emotional depth and narrative flair that truly resonate.
If Glue can Help you Stick the Landing, use it.
Communication is, at its heart, a profoundly human experience. While AI excels at assisting with the process, it’s the human touch that ensures every message, design, and story resonates well. May AI always be the Crazy Glue and duct tape in our creative toolbox—helping us stick the landing but never replacing the spark of human creativity.
